What kind of hive intelligence should we adopt as a human race?

32. Hive Intelligence

A proper definition of Hive Intelligence from the reference below goes like this-

Hive intelligence refers to a collective intelligence phenomenon where a group of individuals works together to achieve a common goal, often exemplified by species like bees and ants. 

It involves a coordinated effort that enhances problem-solving and decision-making capabilities beyond what any single member could achieve alone. This concept can also apply to human societies, where collective collaboration can lead to innovative solutions and unity, but it may also risk inhibiting individual critical thinking and autonomy.


My thoughts on hive intelligence are as follows:


Hive Intelligence, unless blessed by nature as a basic instinct (in species like ants and bees), will be achieved only with a strong commitment to the team, code of conduct, training and discipline.

It is because of this reason that a well-organized team of police members can achieve a lot in a stressful situation than a group of random public strangers.


Where can we find some hive intelligence as part of some day-to-day routines/responsibilities?

  • Business organizations

  • School

  • Army

  • Churches

  • Fire Hazard workers

  • Gym trainers

  • Health care workers etc


Even mafia has their own hive intelligence based on their code of conduct!


All of them have their job duties as the common thread in developing and sustaining their hive intelligence. Within a given context as above, everyone pretty much knows what to expect and what to do/not do in a given context or situation.


But the hive intelligence provided by nature as a basic instinct in certain species goes above and beyond official duties because it is not written as some codified rules or based on training – it is in their DNA! How can we achieve such a level of sophistication in achieving hive intelligence and how can it benefit us?

One way or context of achieving hive-intelligence is by agreeing on common set of code of conduct on certain basic areas of the society and making them part of our trainings in schools, churches and other training places.


We are already doing it in trainings related to –

  • Tackling fire hazards

  • Treating waste/pollutions

  • Traffic laws and rules

  • General awareness on gentlemanly/gentlewomanly behaviours

  • Water conservation

  • Etc.,


New hive-intelligent contexts can be developed and adopted for –

  • Elder care facilities and generally accepted principles of elder care

  • Infant care facilities and generally accepted principles of infant care

  • Segregating relationships as groups/grades and applying relevant common understanding to each groups/grade such as –

    • Golden grade, time tested and honourable filial relationships

    • Friendship classes like best friends, friends and friends of friends etc.,

    • Coworkers

    • Acquaintances

    • Date interests

    • Love interests

    • Other long-standing interests etc.,

    • Good standing member of a society


When we have such common general knowledge along with relevant trainings at the right time then the society as a whole develops a kind of positive hive intelligence. It is easy to accept other’s point of view if the heavy lifting is done by such common principles governing hive intelligence and imparted via the trainings. This also have other lateral positive impacts such as – workable arbitrations, counselling sessions, court rulings, prioritizing and administering certain social benefits etc.,


By adding to hive-intelligence, we are having an effect of controlling the various numerous moving parts of our life and reducing the dynamic part to individuals’ adopted value systems and his skills, knowledge and other capabilities, as much as possible. We will have certain solid understanding such as what should be handled by the society and what can be effectively handled by an individual. Besides, various parts of the codified hive intelligence can be delegated to the different human resources groups that are best educated, trained and tasked to handle.


For example, revolutionary ideas may emerge aiming for maximizing the output of human resources in a society such as -

  • Making childcare a primarily the responsibility of the society in general, with an understanding that parental care can be a complimentary but essential relationship.

  • Making eldercare a primarily the responsibility of the society in general, with an understanding that other filial relationships can be a complimentary but essential need.

  • Developing and appropriately phasing the training contents relating to sex education, essential spiritual guidance, raising family etc.,

  • Developing ideas such as community kitchens and/or living spaces and community living centres instead of individual homes to drive effectiveness and efficiency in living places and in largely improving the quality of living and life. This also will help improve the nuclear, divisionary and isolating tendencies seen in the current society and give more opportunities to build fruitful, enriching and meaningful relationships in everybody’s lives. Thus, hive intelligence, if driven carefully, can set gold standards for living! The different human resource groups of the society, mentioned above with distinct responsibilities can help in forming the right group with similar minded people in a given setting and thus help in avoiding troubles/issues in a group setting and to improve harmony and homogeneity of the different groups. This concept can also promote the least use of resources for a given population – thus promoting minimalistic living in a group context.

  • Developing social principles relating to making living life generally an easy and stressless task while urging everyone to follow the path of excellence while in pursuit of happiness!

  • Any other ideas.
